# Participation

Do I need a YouTube account to participate in a giveaway.

Yes, in order to participate in return giveaways you need to have an active YouTube account, which is at least 90 days old.

Do I need to be subscribed to a giveaway host to join their giveaway?

No, you can join a giveaway even if you're not subscribed to a host.

Can I join any giveaway?

In general giveaways are open to be joined by anyone. The host might impose additional rules though that you have to fulfill to be eligible to win. Such rules could be e.g.:

  • Location - You must reside in a certain country.
  • Age - You have to be of a certain age.
  • Time - You must be available at a certain date & time.
  • Training / License - You must have a specific training or license.
  • Privacy - You need to agree to be on camera or have your data published somewhere.
  • Affiliation - You mustn't be affiliated with a certain party (e.g. the sponsor of the giveaway).

Information about such kind of rules can usually be found in the official rules or the description of the giveaway. Failing to comply with these rules might make you unable to join the giveaway or ineligible to win.

# Loyalty Bonus

What is the loyalty bonus?

The loyalty bonus rewards you for your loyalty to a channel by increasing your winning chance in a giveaway. The longer you're subscribed to a channel, the higher your loyalty bonus and therefore your winning chances.

How is my loyalty bonus calculated?

In general your loyalty bonus is based on the duration you are subscribed to a channel. The longer you've been subscribed, the higher is your loyalty bonus and therefore your winning chances.

Next to that it also depends on the algorithm the host has selected for the prize. A host might use the 'Linear' algorithm were you get the same increase in winning chance for each day of subscription. A different algorithm gives subscribers that are subscribed very long an additional bonus. There is also the possibility to give each participant the same chance, independent of their subscription duration.

Why is my loyalty bonus only calculated until the start date of the giveaway?

This is a response to the YouTube Fake Engamement Policy. This policy forbids YouTube channel owners to use third-party services to artificially inflate metrics like views, likes, and subscribers.

If the loyalty bonus was calculated with respect to the end date of the giveaway, it could incentivize participants to subscribe to the channel to increase their winning chance. This could violate the Fake Engagement Policy and have negative consequences for the channel owner.

To protect them, we chose to use the start date of the giveaway as a reference. In this way a non-subscribed user has no incentive to subscribe since it doesn't increase their winning chances anymore (as the giveaway already started).

Does the loyalty bonus apply to every giveaway?

Not necessarily. The host of the giveaway can decide whether every participant gets the same chance to win or if they want to reward the loyalty of long-term subscribers. You can see the way in which the loyalty bonus is calculated in the prize information of the giveaway.

# Winning a giveaway

What happens if I win a giveaway? What do I have to do?

If you win a giveaway, this will be displayed in your feed and notifications in return. To be able to send the prize to you, the host needs to know your address data. You can transmit it by clicking on the giveaway you've won and filling out the displayed form. If you pre-filled you address when you joined the giveaway, this step is not necessary anymore.

Be aware that the host might send messages to the e-mail address you provided so be sure to check it regularly and also have a look at your spam folder in case their e-mail was flagged by the spam filter of your e-mail service.

Be aware that failing to communicate with the host, being slow to respond or providing incorrect information might cause the host to reroll the prize. So be sure to be responsive and double-check the info you provide.

# Rerolls and removals

What does it mean to reroll a prize?

Rerolling means that the current winner forfeits their prize and a new winner is drawn for this prize.

What does it mean to remove a prize?

Removing a prize means that the current winner forfeits their prize and no new winner is drawn for this prize. This means the prize remains un-awarded.

What are potential reasons why a prize might be rerolled / removed?

This action is taken by the host of the giveaway, usually because it's not possible to award the prize to the winner. The host might perform a number of rerolls first. If no more rerolls shall be performed, the prize is removed.

Common reasons why a prize might be rerolled / removed include:

  • the winner of the prize is not responding
  • the winner of the prize took too long to respond
  • the winner of the prize is not eligible to win the prize
  • the winner of the prize fails to comply with the official rules of the giveaway
  • the winner of the prize requests to not receive the prize
  • the winner of the prize intentionally sabotages the shipping process, e.g. by submitting hoax addresses
  • the prize is returned as undeliverable
